Quantum wires (QWRs) and quantum dots (QDs) ofrnZn1-x-yCdxMnySe diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMSs) were fabricatedrnfrom single quantum well (SQW) structures, with various wire widths orrndot diameters in the range of 10 to 100 nm, by using an electron-beamrnlithography technique. The DMS-QWRs show the giant Zeeman shiftsrnwhich are 6 % larger than that of the SQW, in addition to the lateralrnconfinement effect for the excitonic photoluminescence (PL) energy. ThernDMS-QD with the diameter of 30 nm shows the giant Zeeman shift (geff =rn420 at 1 T) and the shift energy is 12 % larger than that of the SQW. Therntransient PL indicates the significant suppression for the localizationrnprocess of confined excitons in the QD. The effects of the lateralrndimensions on the s, p-d exchange interactions between excitons and Mnionsrnare discussed in these quantum structures.
