摘要

The use of refined analysis methods and nondestructive field testing technologies can improve the reliability for evaluation of existing bridges compared with the use of simplified methods in bridge design. The advanced methods include in-depth finite element analysis, field testing/measurements using strain/displacement transducers, and nondestructive testing technologies for condition assessment of materials and non-visible structural components such as embedded prestressing steel strands. This paper discusses the benefits of evaluating existing bridges using the advanced methods.
