Norwegian bioenergy plants are facing stricter regulations and low energy prices. Process optimizationrnfor improved control can be interesting to look into in order to increase the profit margins of existing plants.rnIncreased process knowledge has the potential to provide the necessary input to improved combustion controlrnstrategies, which can result in reduced emission levels, improved efficiencies, increased capacity and reducedrnmaintenance costs. In this study, a measurement campaign was carried out at a 10 MW grate fired plant burning woodrnbriquettes. The aim was to measure the concentration of different gaseous species inside the combustion chamber, atrndifferent locations and at varying operating conditions. Measurements were taken close to the fuel bed, in thernfreeboard and at the combustion chamber exit. The plant load was varied between 4.5 and 10.5 MW. Thernmeasurements provide valuable information for improved combustion control strategies as well as for validation ofrnmodelling approaches, or input to these. The measurements provide useful data for CFD modelling of the plant bothrnfor the modelling of the fuel bed, the freeboard and flue gas emission levels.
