This paper, which illustrates the results of the pruning almond harvesting test carried out during thernEuropean project Europruning (‘‘Development and implementation of a new and not existent logistics chain forrnbiomass from pruning’’) highlights that the use of agricultural residuals as renewable energy source needs a wellorganizedrnsupply chain, and that permits to obtain a marketable woodchip with good characteristics. This firstrndemonstration harvesting test carried out in Alcañiz (Aragon, Spain) with the innovative pruning harvesting machinernPC50 developed during the project, hadthe scope to verify the harvesting performance and the quality of the productrnproduced. During the trialhave been undertaken two different configurations of the machinethat simultaneouslyrnpermits harvesting, chipping and packaging of pruning residuals in Big–bag or in tilting box. Intensive mechanizationrnof harvesting implies lower costs and simultaneous packaging assures a better organization of the whole energyrnchain.
