Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are emitted during phases of incomplete combustion and arernconsidered particularly harmful to the human health. Benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) as a representative of PAHs is restrictedrnby the European Union to an annual average value of 1°ng/m³, which is significantly exceeded during heating seasonsrnin various regions. BaP emissions of sixautomatic state-of-the-art biomass boilers were assessed on the basis of therndilution method derived from ISO 11338-1. Correlations with other emission parameters were investigated. Thernemission behaviour in different operation phases (start, stop, full load and partial load operation) and real-lifernoperation scenarios from different boiler system types were determined and compared. Moreover the investigatedrntechnologies were compared with other heating technologies from literature concerning the BaP-emission behaviour.rnThis work delivers insight into the potential of BaP emissions of particularly modern biomass boilers.
