NEW LABORATORY SCALE FIXED-BED GASIFIER OPERATING AT CONDITIONS UP TO 950 ℃ AND 20 BAR

In 2016 a counter-current fixed-bed biomass gasification plant in laboratory scale has been set up. This batch gasilier operates at temperaturesup to 950 ℃ and pressures up to 20 bar.Different gasification agents (mixtures of N_2, O_2, air, steam, and CO_2) as well as different feedstocks, e.g. chips and pellets with a particle diameter between 3 and 20 mm, can be used. For a deeper understanding of the gasification reaction, 20 thermocouples are installed inside the gasification reactor to visualize the temperature profile of the fixed bed. Furthermore, a gravimetric analysis system for the fixed-bed mass during the reaction and three gas sampling points extending along the fixed-bed height for gas analysis at 450 ℃ are installed. Also conclusions on coke and slag building inside the gasification reactor can be drawn. First test results ofcurrently running projects with this gasification plant are expected in third to fourth quarter of 2016. Keywords: gasification, batch reactor, forest residues.
