In this study, a methodology for combat aircraftrndesign will be introduced by using the UnmannedrnAir Vehicle, U-99, as the case study (Fig. 1). Thernmethodology aims at integration of the survivabilityrnassessment into the early stage of combatrnaircraft design for operational effectiveness. Byrnusing the shotline and square counting methods,rnthe vulnerability probability values of the U-99rncan be evaluated. The external shape has beenrnseparated into several simple geometrical shapesrnfor detection probability prediction. The reliabilityrnand maintainability values can be predictedrnusing the Pareto distribution and historical datarnanalysis. Reliability block diagrams have beenrnchosen for developing the flight phase probabilityrnin each sortie throughout the mission simulation.rnThis enables the number of available aircraft tornbe found. Several parameters may be varied tornsee what effect they have. An optimiser then indicatesrnhow effective conceptual design changesrnmay be on producing optimum effectiveness.
