As a systematic approach to waste disposal siternscreening for groundwater pollution protection, the DRASTICrnsystem developed by the US Environmental Protection Agencyrn(USEPA) was introduced at Younggwang County in Korea.rnHydrogeologic spatial databases for the system include info rmationrnon depth to water, net recharge, aquifer media, soilrnmedia, topographic slope, hydraulic conductivity and lineament.rnUsing the databases, the DRASTIC system and a GIS, the regionalrngroundwater pollution vulnerability of the study arearnwas assessed. The fracture density extracted from lineamentrnmaps was added to the DRASTIC system to take into accountrnthe preferential migration of contaminants through fractures.rnFrom the results of the study, a degree of groundwater pollutionrnvulnerability through the study area was easily interpreted, andrnwaste disposal sites could be screened for groundwater protection.
