The increasing energy demand and the problems associated with the use of fossil resources make arngreater use of renewable energies (RES) essential. Due to the wide range of use, the use of bioenergy, and especiallyrnof biogas, is a good option to transform the energy system. Because of the limited size of the plants, the use of RESrnand thus also the use of biogas is a decentralized topic. The decision about the optimal plant location is related torndifferent factors. In the past, the site selection has been made especially at the substrate availability. In the end, thisrnfact led to a neglect of other local issues. However, it has been shown that for a good regional integration, the use ofrnelectricity and the heat utilization is another important key factor. For a location decision in the future, additionalrnlocal factors should be considered besides only focusing on the possible energy yield. The question is which suitablernvalues can be used to evaluate these impacts. Our research reveals that beside hard facts, like economic impacts andrnenvironmental effects, social consequences play an important role too.
