TOOLS AND RESOURCES FOR COMPETITIVE INTELLIGENCE: AN OVERVIEW OF WEB-CONFERENCING AND COLLABORATIVE SOFTWARE

Since the public deployment of Web technologies, conferencing over the Web, has grown increasingly popular as a delivery mechanism for virtual meetings, presentations, e-learning and for work on collaborative projects. This trend, coupled with the build-out of the Internet, should see the continued evolution of web-conferencing software. As broadband access becomes more readily available (to both businesses and consumers), end users will be afforded the opportunity of conducting increasingly complex projects in collaborative virtual settings. To compensate for these developments, features for both the presentation and authoring of 3-dimensional, audio and video content will need to be integrated into conferencing software, leading to an enriched user experience. This essay will examine several of the web-conferencing offerings currently available, and will likewise focus on how changes can be made, in order to best incorporate technological developments.
