Modelling and simulation is of crucialrnimportance for system design and optimisation.rnIn aircraft, simulation has been strong in thernarea of flight dynamics and control. Modellingrnand simulation of the hydraulic systems hasrnalso a long tradition. The rapid increase inrncomputational power has now come to a pointrnwhere complete modelling and simulation ofrnthe sub systems in an aircraft is possible.rnIn this paper it is demonstrated how thernactuation system control surfaces can bernsimulated using a flight dynamics model of thernaircraft coupled to a model of the actuationrnsystem. In this way the system can then bernoptimised for certain flight condition by "testrnflying” the system. The distributed modellingrnapproach used, makes it possible to simulaternthis system faster than real time on a 650 MHzrnPC. This means that even system optimisationrncan be performed in reasonable time.
