Usages of by-products in concrete production are an important subject in sustainable development and industrial ecology. These usages of wastes improve durability of concrete and thus, increase economical and environmental advantages for concrete industry. Gainings such as reducing the consumption of natural resources and energy, increasing economical value of the wastes and preventing the waste depots are very important for the world futurernIn this study, the sulphate resistant of concrete mortar specimens produced with ground blastfurnace slag replacing cement is examined. Ground slag as the by-product of Eregli Steel-Iron Works Company is used in this study by replacing cement at the ratios of 0, 10, 20 and 30 % by weight. Slag is ground into two finenessses as 3500 ve 4000 cm~2/g Blaine. Specimens are exposed to standart cure during 28 days. 24 series of specimens are produced. 6 series of specimens are continued to be exposed to standard cure, 6 series are kept in 40000 Mg/L MgSO_4 and last 6 series are also kept in 40000 Mg/L Na_2SO_4. The mortar specimens are kept in mentioned conditions during 90 days. Each series include three mortar specimens of 4×4×16 cm. After these 90 days, the weight losses, flexural and compressive strenghts of the specimens which were kept in solutions and water are determined. Consequently, the effects of slag finenness, slag replacement ratio and solution type on sulphate resistance are evaluated.
