摘要

Testing new design base bleed ammunition at elevations for maximum range resulted in the presence of waves on the C_D-tinie curves, totally obscuring the base bleed burnout information. The origin of the waves was unknown. In this paper we show that the observed period of a wave correlates with the yawing period of the projectile. Together with other information this leads to the conclusion that the origin of the waves is yaw related. The wave amplitudes of especially high vertex trajectories are not feasible, due to C_D values which are often less than the possible minimum. This unacceptable wave property is attributed to the effect of a radar reflection position wandering on the projectile surface. The effect is enhanced when dividing the pseudo-error by the very low values of air density and projectile velocity experienced at high altitudes.
