ELECTRICAL EXPLOSION OF UNDULATED WIRES

We present results of experiments and simulations of the electrical explosion of undulated wires. The research is relevant for the possibility of electrical disruption of shaped charge jets. The simulations were carried out with an MHD code developed by us for the hydrocode Autodyn. The simulations show a good qualitative and quantitative comparison with the experimental results. We analyze the explosion mechanism, and discuss the case of stretching jets, which also was simulated.
