In this paper, a method is presented to evaluate rotary axis bearing condition in order to support predictive maintenance. A series of five DBB tests are performed to determine the five motions errors of the rotary axis. Then using rigid body assumptions, the causal radial motions at extreme bearing locations is estimated. Test results are in the spatial domain since the estimated deviations are functions of the trunnion angular position. However, they are analyzed using two commonly used parameters in time-domain analysis of bearings, RMS values and kurtosis factor. Results for the RMS value appear more relevant to characterize the condition of the bearings.
