Influence of mechanical deformations (bending and tensile drawing), UV radiation, moisture and elevated temperature on light transmission of polymeric optical fibers (POF) with poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) core and reflecting layer on the base of poly(fluoro acrylate) PFA has been studied by IR-, UV- and ESR spectroscopic, light scattering and optical microscopic techniques. It has been shown that an increase of light losses is caused by an appearance of microcracks under deformation, forming macroradicals and chromophore groups under UV-radiation, a growth of IR absorption on overtone vibrations of OH-groups under damping and also by changing light guide geometry and the destruction processes in it under heating.
