EO-07: DEVELOPMENT OF RESIDENTIAL GAS-COOLING TECHNOLOGY

The Japan Gas Association promoted the research and development program on gas air conditioners forrnresidential use. The program covered the four years, FY 1992 to FY 1995 and had a total budget of aboutrn3.3 billion yen. Half of this budget was subsidized by the Ministry of International Trade & Industry. Fourrngas utilities (i.e., Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Toho Gas and Saibu Gas) and eleven manufacturers participated inrnthis project, working on ten subjects relating to four different types of air conditioning systems.rnIn the final year of the project, development of three of the subjects was sufficiently far advanced to allowrnfield tests to be carried out nationwide. The units developed under these three subjects all more or lessrnachieved the initial targets for cooling capacity, efficiency, weight and so forth. The technologies developedrnin this program will be utilized effectively for the commercialization of residential gas air conditioners.
