Today's trend in personal electronics is to provide smaller, slimmer packages with more features and longer battery life. To improve performance and efficiency, semi-conductors are operated at lower voltages hut place higher current demands on power supplies and internal components. DC/DC converters are being designed with switching frequencies above 500kHz to reduce component size and increase efficiency but are constrained by the physical size and loss of the inductive component. A new, patent pending, technology has been developed by Vishay that provides an efficient, high current, low profile surface mount inductor that meets the needs of today's DC/DC converters as well as those of tomorrow.
