India is making rapid strides in the renewable energy sector, as part of its global climate change commitments. India has set path to achieve 100 GW capacity through grid connected solar PV but out of which 40 GW is targeted to come from roof top solar installations by 2022. Roof mounted residential photovoltaic system gaining popularity due to several advantages like low gestation period, island mode power supply and grid stability. This paper proposes a study on the technical and economic performance analysis of the 20 kW roof mount PV system for typical weather conditions of Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The proposed system is simulated using National Renewable Energy Laboratory tools with the motto to evaluate the annual energy, monthly energy, capacity factors, average electricity purchased cost, energy revenues possible for the owner. The study shows that, proposed 20 kW PV system performs better by recording annual energy generation as 31476 kWh and with a capacity factor as 18%. Finally, the paper is concluded by highlighting the outcomes that would help the installers, industrialists, and academician to understand better about the performance of roof mount PV systems.
