This paper describes, a solar photovoltaic (SPV) steady state and transient (dynamic) analysis with the help of mathematical formulations. The comparison with simulation studies using PSCAD software and experimental results using Solar Array Simulator (SAS) and actual Solar PV system has been obtained. To understand the complete characteristics of the SPV system the dynamic analysis is necessary. In order to verify the proposed dynamic analysis a prototype experimental test model was developed in the laboratory. It uses a Solar Array Simulator which is feeding a resistive load. If the solar radiation level changes then the SPV module current also changes. Both transient and steady state response has been observed under sudden change in solar irradiance level. The result obtained through model experiments validates the dynamic performance of the solar array simulator.
