The paper describes the design of an automatic system for the production of hydrochloric acid from HCl gas released from a potassium sulfate production unit based on the Mannheim process. The proposed automated system replaces manual operation of the pumps and valves in the unit a programmable logic controller (PLC) controlled unit. Automating the unit is expected to increase productivity, maintain product quality, and reduce the risks associated with the operation of the unit.
