Power quality is becoming an important issue in recent research's due to frequent use of sensitive loads. Various issues such as voltage sag/swell, harmonics and distortion degrade the power quality and leads to system failure. For the sensitive power user, the voltage sag has been one of the most serious power quality problem. However, using custom power devices, this issue can be resolved. Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) is most efficient and effective custom power device to mitigate voltage sag/swell problems. DVR is placed in series with power distribution system and injects required amount of real power in the system for restoring line voltage to its nominal value. This paper presents the MATLAB simulation model of a DVR with hysteresis controller as a voltage sag/swell mitigation device in electrical power distribution networks.
