Demand of high data rate is increasing in telecommunication networks to quench the High bandwidth applications in near future. Passive Optical network (PON) is the promising aspirant which has unlimited data rate, number of wavelength channels and long fiber length. Moreover, for ever increasing demand of high data rate, Next Generation Passive Optical Network (NG-PON) is essentially required. However, high power consumption in proposed solutions is a serious and challenging issue for energy efficient design thus several techniques have been proposed at the low data rate transmission. In this research article, firstly an analysis on different energy efficient techniques in PON is discussed then a high data rate of 40Gbps Differentially Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (DQPSK) optical fiber network is proposed and investigated with simulation results, which can be implemented as better solution for energy efficient techniques with low power consumption at 20km fiber length.
