Study on the safety chain scope of LNG carriers anchoring in designated anchorage

摘要

Due to the peculiarity of LNG goods, the safety of LNG ships anchored in the designated anchorage has been drawn much attention to. According to the real ship data and related designated anchorage hydro-meteorological data of Dalian Port, theoretical calculation and analysis are made on the safe length of anchor chain for corresponding vessels to be dropped in such area under different weather conditions. The analytical results show that windage area of LNG carriers is large, so the influence of wind is more obvious and the chain scope is longer than other type of ships. The greater the wind and the current velocity, the more anchor chains, and it is also different for the ship loading condition in either ballast or full load.
