An algorithm was developed using existing empirical model for determining soil moisture content of bare soil. Phased array L-Band synthetic aperture radar (PALSAR) data was first classified for different land cover such that; water, urban, tall vegetation, short vegetation and bare soil. The objective was to determine the soil pixel from study area by masking the other class. An inversion technique based on empirical model was derived and applied on bare soil pixel to determine the soil moisture. Finally a Graphical User Interface (GUI) was developed to retrieve soil moisture for bare soil area along with the classified map of the study area.
