In single stage continuous time sigma delta modulator the resolution limitations are the functions of system level parameters. The power consumption of continuous time sigma delta modulator is estimated as the design parameters and validated by power consumption of fabricated prototype. As the sigma delta modulators are mainly implemented as discrete time circuits, a continuous time approach provides significant advantages for realizing high accuracy analog to digital converters at signal bandwidths where technology considerations may impose significant constraints. A continuous time design allows for the realization of high resolution modulators with bandwidths of several MHz or more at low power. The proposed algorithm is meant to design the system level parameters for minimum power consumption for a given resolution and bandwidth.
