Renewable are seen as next generation sources of energy for meeting rising energy demands and depleting fossil fuels. Solar, biomass, geothermal, hydro-electric and wind are also the other type of renewables which are tapped effectively to produce huge megawatts of power. Among all these, wind is the cheapest renewable source of energy. At present, there are many types of wind turbines. Broadly they are classified as Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT) and Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT). In this paper, a simple and effective mathematical modelling has been proposed for Darrius type wind turbine. The variation of power coefficient with respect to tip speed ratio and the output mechanical power for various pitch angle has been analyzed in detail and are presented in this paper. The results shows that the proposed modelling is competitive with already existing modelling of wind turbine.
