In this work, the optimal synthesis of monopulse beamforming weights for airborne radar systems is addressed by means of a custom convex programming procedure. The designed active electronically scanned array (AESA) is equipped with a single transceiver module (TRM) for each element, common to all patterns. The set of complex TRM coefficients is optimized in order to provide the maximum directivity and an asymmetric sidelobes envelope for the sum pattern along with the maximum slope for difference patterns. A representative application of the proposed method for monopulse radar system in side-looking configuration is discussed.
