The transition from marketing ideals to specific engineering detail language involves system design for noise and distortion with a budget for impairments of jitter, IQ skew, quadrature error, and gain mismatch. MER and EVM quantify the error requirements, especially at the 802.11ax/ad 1024 QAM where 1/2 of the previous 256 QAM of 802.11ac existed. Moving into circuit design impedance and the four transformations of voltage to voltage, current to current, trans-impedance and — or trans-conductance are of critical importance to optimize the impairments and make an RFIC in a non-50 ohm environment optimal. Technology choice overviews with a brief MonteCarlo and 4 corners production readiness concludes the discussion.”
