In order to accurately extract the local frequency in fringe patterns obtained by Michelson interferometer, an improved fringe frequency extraction method was proposed. The normalized spectrum was utilized to estimate the fringe frequency, rather than searched the amplitude maximum of original spectrum. The proposed algorithm was used to extract the local frequency of fringe patterns generated by Matlab. Simulated results showed that the proposed method has a better performance in extracting fringe frequency. The new algorithm had higher precision and broader range of applications than the original window Fourier ridge algorithm.
