摘要

The widespread use of non-linear loads means the traditional meters fail to give accurate values of real power, reactive power and apparent power in the presence of high levels of distortion factors. This inevitably creates big difference between the actual and calculated/measured savings resulting from reactive power compensation. It has been investigated the impact of distortion factors on the determination of savings accrued from VAr compensation using both traditional and smart meters. Results in the paper clearly demonstrate the effect of VAR compensation on total harmonic distortion measured with smart meter.
