In order to realize the safety and reliability operation of circuit breaker, the bi-stable permanent magnet actuator is presented according to the 40.5kV vacuum circuit breaker. In the aspect of theoretical analysis, the motion properties and load characteristics of transmission system are studied and given the principle, structure and design parameters of bi-stable permanent magnet actuator. The matching performance experimental system are designed and completed between the prototype and vacuum circuit breaker, which employed linear displacement sensor to measure the travel of contact. The opening and closing characteristics of contact are researched under the rated operational voltage, which analyzed the influence of different operating voltage and capacitance capacity for the opening and closing properties, the stability of motion characteristics for the bi-stable permanent magnet actuator under the same operating conditions through the matching experimental system. The testing results show that the average opening speed is 1.5m/s, average closing speed is 1.12m/s, which meet with the operating requirements of circuit breaker. The average opening speed increases 0.2m/s and average closing speed is 0.1m/s according with the operating voltage increases 20V. The average opening speed increases 0.15m/s and average closing speed is 0.1m/s according with the capacitance capacity increases 0.01F. The stability of operation time is high for the bi-stable permanent magnet actuator machine under the different operation times.
