摘要

This paper deals with the design, analysis and details of fabricated laboratory prototypes of two linear motors namely, linear induction motor (LIM) and linear permanent magnet synchronous motor (LPMSM). The synchronous speed (5 m/s), power rating (320W) as also the linor stamping dimensions are kept unchanged in the both cases to provide for a common basis for comparison between these two. The LIM (220 V) had been previously fabricated in the laboratory while the LPMSM (100 V) of same power rating and pole numbers has been fabricated recently as a part of this work. The motors have been designed with an emphasis on simple structure for ease of laboratory operations, dis-assembly and re-assembly lesser time and cost of fabrication. For the LPMSM commercially available magnetic tablets have been used. The paper focuses on the study of relative performance between the two motors with respect to energy densities in particular. It is primarily a proof-of-concept type work on the relative performances of LIM and LPMSM of same rating.
