Emerging trends in IoT standards and legislation

The importance of Standards and societal Impact of Internet of Things (IoT) projects appear to be of secondary consideration in the present IoT initiatives. In this context, industry practices and academic curricula seems to be lacking in adequate awareness. Even the revised draft IoT policy released in April 2015 by Government of India does not focus on specifics and solutions for ensuring trustworthiness of IoT systems. Authors bring out a need for emphasis on standards and IoT legislation aspects of successful IoT movement. Educational curricula initiatives need to be launched and strengthened effectively The concerns of inadequacies of first generation IoT approaches should not be a bottleneck for their deployment in Smart Cities project. Emerging opportunities for R&D establishments & educational sector in Standards for IoT and related areas are brought out.
