Study on moisture distribution of multi-surround oil-paper insulation under moist environment

The transformer bushings may sometimes work in a moist environment where plenty of moisture in the air would ingress into bushings through slots on surface. Moisture dissolves in oil-paper insulating system and brings in significant impact to its insulating property. In order to figure out the possible serious consequences, a series of experiments has been carried out to explore the effect of moisture intrusion. In this paper, the possible damp situation in reality was simulated with a programmable oven which could provide constant temperature and constant humidity. The multi-surround oil-paper insulation models which represent the bushing core were processed in moist environment. Afterwards the moisture content of oil impregnated paper of models was measured, and the effects of moisture intrusion on moisture content of multi-surround oil-paper insulation were analyzed. This study is of great importance for further analysis on damp models' electrical properties and discharge characteristics.
