This study used a wooden hinged door as an example to investigate the influence of users' direct visual perception of door weight on expected operating force. First, relevant factors that influence the perception of doors and their corresponding factor levels were devised to conduct the door perception experiment. Next, conjoint analysis was adopted to establish a function for quantifying the influence of the direct visual perception of door weight. The results showed that the significant influencing factors, ranked by importance, were color (45.62%), handle (24.98%), and depth of panel inset (14.25%). Moreover, blue doors, straight rod handles, and deeply inset door panels scored maximum part-worth utilities. This function effectively quantified the influence of direct visual perception of door weight, which can be used to predict the actual operating force and can serve as an index for door designs.
