We present a mobile and low cost 4-terminal bioimpedance measurement system, consisting of a Red Pitaya board and a front-end, for understanding gastrointestinal physiology and exploring new applications for bioimpedance spectroscopy in gastroenterology. System accuracy was evaluated with a set of impedance standards from 1 ohm to 1 Mohm and an equivalent circuit model of a generic biological tissue within a frequency range from 10 Hz to 1 MHz. The system achieved accuracies of <; 2% and standard deviation in magnitude and phase of <;0.02% and <;0.47% respectively. The system was tested on an excised section of distal colon of a guinea-pig and showed two distinct dispersion regions.
