For wireless communication and transmission cognitive radio (CR) is one of the innovative future possibilities. Choosing appropriate modulation waveform for cognitive radio in physical layer and spectrum sensing are the two main issues. In this paper, the most promising modulation plans with their points of interest and drawbacks have been shown. Traditionally, due to simplicity and robustness of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), it is the most favored modulation technique. But this technique has some disadvantages, which needs to be controlled. Thus, another technique OWDM is introduced. In this paper, OFDM and OWDM are compared on the basis of some parameters.
