The paper describes a structure of an automated system for selection of modes of steel processing in a ladle furnace; the structure is based on use of generalized estimates of costs and quality of the metallurgical process taking into account product quality and acceptability of work modes of the equipment. The ability of studying the impact of administration resources on the performance of the unit as well as on costs and quality of the process, is one of the distinguishing properties of administration support systems with a training function. It is supposed in the paper that a process operator of a large metallurgical enterprise is interested in obtaining a high quality product at a non-emergency operation of the equipment and a lack of visible and controllable overrun of material resources. That is why it is reasonable to use generalized estimates of costs determined in respect of current consumption of resources and planned standards during the optimization process. The received correlations between generalized estimates of quality and costs of the process under various duration time were used in development of simulators for staff training at metallurgical enterprises and making recommendations for process administration under variable overall duration of steel processing.
