Because of the high content of over length fibers and poor uniformity in fiber length, it is difficult for drafting during the spinning of conventional ramie yarn, so the quality of yarn, especially, yarn evenness, is not satisfactory.Meanwhile, the efficiency of ramie spinning system is very low compared to that of cotton spinning system.In this article,the technology of stretch-breaking was used to break the combed slivers of ramie, with the average fiber length about 100 mm, into new stretch-broken slivers, whose average fiber length is similar to cotton, to reduce the content of over length fibers and improve the length uniformity.Then the slivers were spun in cotton spinning system.At last, the quality of yarn spun from the stretch-broken slivers was tested, and compared with that of conventional ramie yarn.The result shows that the quality of yam spun from the stretch-broken slivers, is generally better than that of conventional ramie yam, and the spinning efficiency is highly improved.
