Polarization management has always been of great interest in designation of communication systems and circuits. Various scenarios are proposed to have a fiber optic with only one polarization. The value of the extinction ratio and also the amount of loss of one polarization determines the merit of these methods. Here we have applied a novel hybrid waveguide to promote the performance of the proposed polarizer using the properties of hybrid guides. The polarizer structure and performance results are discussed. The device is compact and compatible with CMOS technology. Finite-difference time-domain simulation shows that such a polarizer provides a high extinction ratio for a reasonable insertion loss of the TM mode.
