Seasonal variations of amplitude scintillation events using GPS data at Malaysia

This paper presents the percentage of the occurrence of amplitude scintillation at UKM station (geographic: 2.55°N, 101.46°E; geomagnetic: 7.39°S, 173.63°E), Malaysia. GPS Ionospheric Scintillation and TEC Monitor (GISTM) data during solar minimum from January to December 2010 has been collected in this study. The statistical results show that the highest percentage of amplitude scintillation occurred during equinox and winter months, in September and December, respectively due to the close alignment of the solar terminator with magnetic meridian. Whilst, amplitude scintillations were observed during summer was the lowest rate. This may for the reason that electron density in summer is small in the equatorial region.
