Influence of UF resin on pyrolysis characteristics of biomass components: A thermogravimetric study

In order to study the pyrolysis characteristic of biomass components, especially the influence of urea formaldehyde resin (UF) on different components, compositional study on thermogravimetric analysis was carried out on cellulose, xylan, lignin and UF resin. The three main components as well as the ones mixed with UF resin ran the same heating pattern. TGA analysis indicated that the first weight loss of hemicellulose appeared earlier than that of cellulose. Lignin decomposed in the whole range of pyrolysis process. All components may undergo pyrolysis individually in biomass and the sum in the proportions of the three main components can simulate the pyrolysis behavior of biomass. Among the three main components of biomass, the influence of UF resin mainly performed on cellulose and lignin, which specifically performed in the inhibition of cellulose decomposition rate and the promotion of lignin thermal decomposition. For hemicellulose, UF has little impact on it.
