For in-vehicle infotainment systems, there are special requirements for the user interface (UI) regarding driver distraction. As a result, unlike web applications, new applications should be specifically developed for the infotainment system. Further, the user interface of the new applications should be consistent with the user interface of the main functions of the system with the result that the user can interact with the new applications as he is used to. At the same time, the applications should be compatible with different systems in order to minimize the development cost. We present an approach which allows integration of new applications into different in-vehicle infotainment systems via consumer electronics devices. While applications are deeply integrated into the user interface, development cost is minimized and still specific adaptions for certain systems are possible.
