This paper proposes a Big Bang-Big Crunch (BB-BC) optimization algorithm for voltage stability improvement. The voltage stability index is used to rank the load buses. The proposed technique is based on the minimization of the maximum of L-indices of load buses. In this study the BB-BC determines settings of control variables such as transformer tap, reactive power compensating devices, and generator voltages. The simulations have been carried out on IEEE 30 -bus and 118- bus test bus systems. The results of the algorithm are compared with the results obtained by PSO, demonstrate the efficiency of the BB_BC algorithm.
