To improve the dynamic performance of the dual PWM converter, a new control strategy named direct capacitor power control based on sliding mode variable structure (SMC-DCPC) was proposed. In order to control the capacitor power and the grid-side reactive power to be zero, two sliding mode controllers were designed in the inner power loop. To realize the decoupling of grid-side active power, load power and capacitor power, an outer voltage square loop with a PI controller was adopted. This control strategy achieves the goal that the capacitor power can be controlled directly and the effect of load disturbance can be reduced by decoupling of the power of capacitor and load. Simulation results show that the new strategy has a better dynamic performance compared with direct power control based on sliding mode variable structure (SMC-DPC).
