Photothermal optical switching in ultra-compact hybrid Si-VO2 ring resonators

We demonstrate optical switching in ultra-compact hybrid Si-VO2 ring resonators. Large changes in resonant wavelength and optical transmission are achieved by photothermally triggering the reversible semiconductor-to-metal phase-transition of VO2.
