A simple and novel fluorescent anion sensor based on amide moiety, (1-(naphthalen-1-yl)-3- ((pyren-2-yl)methyl)urea) (1) have been designed, and prepared by the reaction of (pyren-2-yl)methanamine with naphthyl isocyanate in quantitative yields. Receptor 1 was characterized by IR, NMR (1H and 13C), ESI-MS and elemental analyses. The interaction and anion sensing properties of receptor 1 with different anions were investigated by fluorescence titration studies in CH3CN:DMSO (9:1, v/v).
