Electrospun Composite Nanofibers of Chitosan and Polyvinylpyrrolidone

Composite nanofibers of Chitosan and Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP K60) were fabricated using electrospinning process from co-dissolving solutions of them. A mixed solvent of formic acid and methanol (with a volume ratio of 40∶ 60) was taken to prepare the co-dissolving solutions, in which the concentrations of Chitason and PVP K60 were 1% and 9% (w/v) respectively. The electrospinning process was conducted at a rising temperature of 50 Celsius degree using a self-made apparatus to evaluate the temperature of spinning liquid and keep it at the constant value. The FM-SEM observations demonstrated that the composite fibers had an average diameter of 78 nm with a uniform structure and smooth surface. This new type of composite naofibers may find possible applications in tissue engineering or drug delivery area.
