Silicon-on-insulator ring-shaped photonic crystal waveguides for refractive index sensing

We present an integrated refractive index sensor based on a ring-shaped photonic crystal waveguide. We measured the shift in cut-off wavelength for different ambient refractive indices and we observed a sensitivity of ¿¿/¿n = 110 nm/RIU.
